Project Description

Main objective – Muwo aims to create an opportunity to use production systems more effectively through flexible scaling. Scalability is achieved by the development of smart hardware interfaces. This will allow workstations to advance to multi-method workstations that support both manual and automated processes. Additionally, workstations can combine different processes. A transmutable simulation validates the workstation configuration and a process combiner optimises the production configuration using AI/ML methods. Through this, Muwo improves the design and operation of production systems.

Goals – The goal of Muwo is to develop several partial solutions for the treatment of the problem described above. A multi-method workspace is being developed, which allows workstations within a production area to switch quickly between manual and automated production. Smart hardware interfaces will be developed, which allow new tools and hardware components to be integrated into existing production systems without much effort. In order to integrate existing processes, a process combiner is developed as a planning tool, which uses AI/ML algorithms to create the optimal configuration of several production processes for a better utilization. The planning alternatives will be validated by means of a transmutable simulation. The basis for this is formed by the digital twins of the different production processes, which can be easily integrated through additional modules developed in the project. In addition, a method is being developed in the Muwo project that makes it possible to integrate several PLC programs into one another or to control a production system with several master PLCs.

Achieved Results – The results of the project can be used in many ways. For example, plant manufacturers and plant operators can benefit from the results. Furthermore, the results can be used in automated production systems as well as in conventional production systems.
