At the IAMOT 2024 conference, which took place on 8 July, INEGI presented the work carried out at Demoscore, with a focus on implementing a new circularity methodology.
This presentation included a comprehensive overview of the methodology, along with a detailed account of the baseline assessment carried out at Demoscore. This initiative is part of the PRODUTECH R3 – WP13 project, which aims to improve industrial sustainability by optimising energy efficiency and the use of productive resources.
The circularity methodology was adapted and applied to a company in the consortium, using real indicators relevant to the specific company and comparing them with standard values representative of the industrial sector. This approach made it possible to establish a baseline for the company’s circularity, marking a crucial first step towards the transition to a circular economy within the scope of the case study.
Calculating the Circularity Index allowed the company to identify its critical points and areas for improvement more effectively, facilitating a more balanced distribution of its sub-indices.
INEGI’s participation in the IAMOT 2024 conference confirms the importance of adopting sustainability and circularity measures in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in order to fulfil the European Union’s (EU) 2030 objectives. Participation in the conference emphasised the importance of these measures, which aim to foster an economy in which companies’ products and by-products are both profitable and indispensable.
INEGI’s efforts to implement circularity measures in companies demonstrate the potential of an economy based on circularity. By adopting these practices, companies can increase profitability while ensuring that their products and by-products are used efficiently, thus contributing to global sustainability goals.
This approach not only benefits the environment, but also aligns with broader EU sustainability goals, demonstrating the transformative potential of circular economy principles in the industrial sector. The work carried out also served as the basis for a scientific paper submitted to a conference, highlighting the importance of integrating employee feedback into the design phases of new technologies.
